• Leave a copy of your itinerary, a house key and a copy of your passports/visas with family or close friend.  Scan and email them to yourself as well.
• Advise local police of your plans if your alarm system is alerts them.
• Advise a neighbor to watch your house and collect mail or have it held at the post office.
• Arrange lodging for pets
• Clean and set your refrigerator
• Put your expensive jewelry in a safe deposit box
• Set heat or air conditioning to appropriate levels
• Set timers and lights to go on at various times
• Stop the newspaper delivery until your return
• Turn off the ice maker
• Turn off the water heater
• Unplug appliances
• Water your plants and arrange for someone to come in to water if you’ll be gone longer than a week.
• Arrange for your lawn to be mowed, snow to be shoveled, etc. while you are gone
• Contact your credit card company to let them know you’ll be traveling
